PHOENIX, AZ (January 19, 2014) – An Arizona father is overjoyed and heartbroken all at the same time. His wife died after delivering quadruplets – three girls and a boy.

Thirty-six-year-old Erica Morales and her husband Carlos were “lovebirds who wanted children for years” according to KTLA.

KNXV spoke with several of Erica’s devastated friends who said it was her lifelong dream to have children.

“There was nothing she was more determined to do in life was to give life,” Christina Todman told CNN affiliate KNXV. “That was her determination. That’s all she wanted.”

And after a year of trying and the help of some doctors, it looked like she was finally going to become a mother.

Several weeks before the babies were due, Carlos took Erica to the hospital for high blood pressure.

Nicole Todman told a KNXV reporter that “It was a matter of a few hours… The babies were delivered about 6:30 in the evening, and Erica passed away early morning.”

Erica never even got to hold the children she had been so desperately waiting for.

At this point in time, no one has made a statement about exactly how Erica died.

This was the hospital’s only comment: “Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with the family during this very difficult time.”

Friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for the family.

They were hoping to raise $75,000, and as of Monday morning over 2,500 people have donated over $90,000.

A Facebook memorial page was also set up in Erica’s honor.

The names of the four children are as follows: Tracey, Paisley, Carlos Junior and Erica.
