INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 23, 2015) – A man was sentenced to 85 years in prison for the abduction, robbery and sexual assault of a woman in July 2013.

On Feb. 10, a jury convicted Raymond Smith of criminal deviate conduct, kidnapping, robbery, carjacking, criminal confinement, strangulation and battery. He was sentenced on Friday.

According to investigators, Smith pretended to be a parking lot attendant on July 31, 2013, and directed a woman to a parking space. When the woman parked and got out of her vehicle, police said he forced his way into the car, punched her in the face and told her, “You’re going to die today.”

Smith drove the woman to the south side where he sexually assaulted her. He then took her to the north side and robbed her before letting her go. Police said surveillance video of the incident and the victim’s description helped police find Smith.
