Championship basketball game canceled after adults fight in the bleachers at Westlane Middle School

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 27, 2015)– The Marion County eighth grade girls championship basketball game was terminated Thursday after a fight broke out in the bleachers with just four minutes remaining in the game. The incident occurred at Westlane Middle School.

During the eighth grade championship game between Westlane Middle School and Creston Middle , with approximately 4 minutes remaining, a physical altercation broke out between adults who were watching the game in the bleachers, according to the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township.

The game was terminated after the fight broke out.

Police are investigating the incident.  A Washington Township administrator was injured while attempting to break up the fight.

Washington Township said in a statement, “We applaud the athletes from both competing teams and know that inappropriate choices by spectator adults, does not tarnish their outstanding seasons and efforts they have made.”
