(March 19, 2015) - Republic Wireless offers low-priced phone service that lets you choose from four different plans and four phones.

“My girlfriend and I used to pay about $150 for two cell phones per month, now our total bill is only $44, which is a great savings,” said customer Angus Owens.

Republic Wireless kicked off in late 2011. Their CEO says they're able to offer inexpensive plans because they predominantly use Wi-Fi.

“If the signal is good enough, we let it reach you over Wi-Fi. We let you call out over Wi-Fi and as a result we can offer economic prices that are just compelling,” said Republic Wireless CEO David Morken.

When Wi-Fi isn't available, the phone automatically switches to a Sprint tower.

There are four plans available. For $5 a month, you get unlimited talk, text and data over Wi-Fi. For $10, customers receive unlimited talk, and text over Wi-Fi + Cell, and unlimited data over WiFi. The $25 monthly plan provides unlimited talk and text over WiFi + Cell. And customers also get unlimited data over Wi-Fi + On-Network 3G.

Republic’s most expensive plan, which is cheaper than most cell providers, is $40 per month. It has unlimited talk and text over WiFi + Cell and unlimited data over WiFi + On-Network 4G. The $25 plan is the most popular.

“It's also unlimited and allows you to have the use of any app or any website that you need to get to outside of Wi-Fi. It also lets you talk and text outside of Wi-Fi for $25 a month. And over half of our subscribers are on that plan,” said Morken.

These plans only use Motorola phones. There are four to choose from, which you buy from Republic. And that may be a good thing because they price the phones lower than you can get almost anywhere. They range from $99 bucks to $399 with NO contract, and you can terminate or change your plan at any time.

There is only one way to get Republic Wireless--its website, which lets you choose your phone and the plan you want. You’ll get the phone by mail in a few days.

“It's been real good. The service and phone are both great. After thinking about signing up with Republic Wireless about two years ago, it took me about a week after I got my phone to decide that I was permanently switching. They have that 30-day return policy, if you don’t like the service,” said Owens.

The CEO of Republic Wireless told FOX59 that Consumer Reports surveyed 60,000 of their own subscribers back in November, and ranked the company as the number one prepaid provider in the country.
