INDIANAPOLIS (April 16, 2015) – Fire crews responded to a working house fire on the city’s west side early Thursday morning.

Crews arrived at the house near W 19th and N Centennial Streets just after 5 a.m. Thursday.

Officers said an elderly man was asleep inside when a good Samaritan broke into his house to wake him up and make sure he knew his house was on fire.

There were no working smoke detectors in the house, but thanks to the helpful neighbor, the man and his dog made it out of the burning house safely.

Firefighters have not yet identified the cause of the fire, but estimate it caused about $40 thousand in damages.
