INDIANAPOLIS (April 20, 2015) – Gov. Mike Pence signed an executive order extending the needle exchange program in Scott County.

The county is dealing with an HIV outbreak linked to needle-sharing among intravenous drug users.

In late March, Pence authorized a needle exchange in Scott County because of the growing HIV problem there. Without the extension announced Monday, the program would’ve expired on April 24.

As of April 17, the Indiana State Department of Health has 128 confirmed cases and six preliminary cases of HIV in Scott County.
