Man dies after car crashes into bridge support beam on near west side

INDIANAPOLIS (April 22, 2015) – A man died Wednesday morning after a crash near the intersection of Washington and Harding streets.

Police arrived on the scene under the railroad bridge around 3:30 a.m. After a preliminary investigation, police confirmed the man died after his vehicle crashed into a support beam on the bridge.

For a time, all traffic on Washington Street was stopped in both directions. The road reopened after about two-and-a-half hours.

At this point, Indianapolis Metropolitan police said it’s not clear what led to the crash. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
