CLAY COUNTY, Ind. – [April 27, 2015}   Around 6:30pm  Monday evening, Indiana State Police and Clay County emergency agencies were called to  a commercial vehicle crash that had occured in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 just east of State Road 59.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound 2007 Freightliner, pulling a trailer loaded with batteries, failed to stop for stationary traffic from an earlier crash. The driver from Dayton, Ohio, lost control of the tractor-trailer while attempting to avoid stopped traffic and struck the bridge railing causing the trailer to catch fire.

The driver from the semi was not injured in the accident

INDOT officials have been on the scene determining the damage to the bridge and any safety concerns. Both westbound lanes are currently closed as traffic is currently routed north onto US 231 in Putnam County.
