Crews recover victim’s body after drowning at Morse Reservoir
HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (May 28, 2015)– Crews recovered a body Thursday after a drowning at Morse Reservoir.
Just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, emergency crews were called to the 1300 block of Lighthouse Point on a report of a possible drowning.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says a pontoon boat, with two women on board, was pulling an inner tube with two men on board. Investigators were able to determine the tube hit a large wave and knocked the two men off and in to the water. When the boat circled back around, one of the men was found, but the other never resurfaced and was found hours later 11 feet under water.
The victim’s body was recovered around 6 p.m. Officials say he is a 22-year-old Louisiana man.
Police are investigating to find out if alcohol was involved, but have determined that he was not wearing a life jacket and is described as someone who was not as a strong swimmer.
The rescue, then recovery, efforts were going on right near Dottie Menard’s house.
“Every time you go out there you take a chance, and it’s just a shame that it had to happen and you just wait and see what’s gonna come out of it,” Menard said.
The victim’s name will be released once his family has been notified.
