Ben Davis High School student brings gun to school

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 10, 2015) – A student was taken into custody at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center Wednesday morning after administrators discovered he was carrying a handgun.

The handgun was not loaded and was recovered without incident.

The 16-year-old student was attending Ben Davis High School summer school classes, which are held at the Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center.

Administrators became aware of the situation when a student at the school brought it to their attention.

At that time, the school resource officer at Ben Davis High School contacted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. IMPD officers came to the school to take the student into custody. The school is secure and the day continued as normal.

MSD of Wayne Township Superintendent Jeff Butts informed parents of the incident in a call home Wednesday afternoon. In addition, summer school students at the Ninth Grade Center were given letters explaining the incident to take home to their parents or guardians.
