INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 19, 2015) — Did you know Father’s Day was first celebrated in 1910? However, the day didn’t become a holiday until President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official in 1972.
Father’s Day was the idea of Sonora Louis Smart Dodd, who was the daughter of a single father and wanted him to have the same recognition moms got on Mother’s Day. The first Father’s Day celebration was held at the Spokane, Washington YMCA on June 19, 1910.
