LANCASTER, Calif. (July 13, 2015) — A California mother was horrified after her 5-year-old son found a hidden camera inside the bathroom at a Starbucks.

According to KTLA, the young boy made the discovery last week at a Starbucks located in Lancaster, Calif.

The camera, which was under the sink, was propped up by paper towels and pointed in the direction of the toilet.

“My son used the restroom first and I used the restroom after him,” the mother, who asked not to be identified, told KTLA. “I noticed he was staring at the sink a little bit perplexed. I asked him what was wrong and he said, ‘Mommy, why is there a phone under there?'”

The mother told employees who then notified the local sheriff's department. She called the camera a "violation of privacy."

Police said the camera was recording, but it wasn't clear where the video was being sent or how long the phone had been on. Investigators were unsure what footage the camera captured.

A spokesman for Starbucks released a statement about the incident:

“We are disturbed by this incident and take our obligation to provide a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees) very seriously. Our store partners took swift action as soon as they became aware of the incident by immediately alerting the Sheriff’s Department of the situation.”
