Columbus man arrested without incident after two-hour standoff

COLUMBUS, Ind.  (July 21, 2015)–  Police arrested a Columbus man after they say he was making threats with a knife.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the 900 block of Driftwood Avenue. Officers spoke to a man who said his neighbor, Nathaniel Ayers, 36, entered his garage and threatened him and other residents with a knife.

Police negotiators spoke with Ayers for several minutes. He exited his residence and was taken into custody without incident by SWAT officers. The standoff lasted for about two hours.

No injuries were reported.  Ayers was transported to the Bartholomew County jail. He faces preliminary charges of residential entry and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
