LINCOLN COUNTY, Miss. — A 4-year-old Mississippi boy and his dog were rescued Sunday after falling into a well, authorities said.
According to The Clarion-Ledger, the boy’s dog had been missing for about three days. They think the 4-year-old heard his dog and turned to look for it and fell into the hole. They said they did not know the well was there.
The two spent about three hours 25 feet down in the well, Clifford Galey, civil defense director for Lincoln County, Mississippi, told CNN.
The child fell about 5 p.m. local time, he said, adding that “several rescue teams” were involved in the rescue. Neither the boy nor the dog appeared to have serious injuries from the ordeal.
The Clarion-Ledger newspaper reported the two were lifted with a pulley system.
Lincoln County is in southwest Mississippi.
