BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (September 13, 2015)–A Columbus man was killed and his passenger seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car southeast of Columbus Sunday.

Around 12:30 p.m. the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department was called to a serious motorcycle accident on State Street near County Road 200 South.

The responding deputy said he saw a man lying in the roadway and a woman lying in the grass nearby.

44-year-old Bruce Caffee was pronounced dead at the scene.  His female passenger, 32-year-old Mariah Crowe was taken by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Investigators say the driver of a Pontiac was making a left turn onto CR 200 South but after realizing it was the wrong road, attempted to pull back across the northbound lane of traffic where he struck the motorcycle.

The driver of the car, 32-year-old Joshua Smith of Columbus had cuts to his hands and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment.
