WASHINGTON D.C. (October 9, 2015) - Who will be the next Speaker of the House? After a wild week in Washington, congressman Luke Messer (R-IN) is talking about the search on this week's edition of FOX59 IN Focus.

Messer serves as chair of the House Republican Policy Committee, and says he's not so sure the Speaker's office should hold as much power as it does currently.

Former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan has been at the center of the discussion since majority leader Kevin McCarthy withdrew from the race.

But is Messer himself interested in moving up, if another leadership post becomes vacant in the process?

"Right now I'm not focused on that," said Messer. "I'm focused on finding a leader that brings us together and finding a process where we could come together. We've now started through my policy committee role a thorough examination of our rules."

And what about the role of Speaker? Would Messer be interested in holding the top spot one day?

"We'll let that be determined," said Messer. "What I've learned in my life is if you do your job and you do it well you never know what doors will open up later."
