INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 20, 2015) - A vacant building once considered a nuisance in the neighborhood is about to get new life with a mission of bringing together the community. An old restaurant at the corner of N. College and Fairfield will be transformed into a multi-purposed building.

Organizer Eddie Owens has a vision to open up a new eatery called 'Our Restaurant' and use the second floor as a community center. He also wants to use upstairs office space for local organizations. Owens, a volunteer with the 10 Point Coalition, said there's also talk of opening up a satellite office in the building for the 10 Point team.

"So this will be a great piece here in this community to help our youth, to help unite the community back together and hopefully reduce crime," said Owens.

The building, located on the near north side was home to the former Big Fella's Restaurant and Event Center. Police busted a previous renter during a raid on an after hours party.

"It allows the opportunity for them to see something different, there’s not a lot of different things that are going on around this area so it allows for them to be able to know that hey whatever your dream is whatever your vision is you can actually live that out in this building," said Brown.

Renovations are underway and organizers hope to open the building in early 2016.
