Indianapolis police ID victim who was fatally shot on east side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 25, 2015) – IMPD is investigating a fatal shooting on the city’s east side. IMPD officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of North Butler Avenue around 11:45 a.m. on a report of a disturbance with shots fired.

Dispatch updated officers that a person was shot at a gas station at the intersection of East 34th Street and North Emerson Avenue. As officers arrived at the gas station, they discovered an unresponsive, unidentified male subject suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS officials transported the victim to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died in surgery.

IMPD homicide detectives responded to the gas station and to the 3300 block on Butler Avenue to begin canvassing the area for leads. The Marion County Forensic Service Agency was notified and responded to the scene.

Detectives believe the victim was involved in an altercation with a known subject in the 3300 block of North Butler Avenue.  After being shot, the victim drove his vehicle to the gas station, where he collapsed in the parking lot.

The Marion County Coroner will determine a cause and manner of death after an autopsy is performed.
