Jared Fogle’s ex-wife criticizes his parenting skills, details her disgust as divorce finalizes
BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (Nov. 25, 2015)— Court documents obtained by FOX59 provide details into the finalized divorce settlement between Jared Fogle and his ex-wife, Kathleen.
Kathleen Fogle filed for divorce on August 19, just hours after federal prosecutors announced a plea deal was reached in which Jared would plead guilty to conspiracy to receive child pornography and traveling to have sex with minors.
Jared Fogle, who gained fame as a Subways spokesman, became the focus of a child exploitation case after FBI agents and State Police investigators raided his Zionsville home, where several computers and other electronic equipment were removed in early July.
Fogle’s ex-wife, who changed her last name back to her maiden name, stated in divorce documents, she has been “working tirelessly since in an attempt to provide a sense of security and normality for the [couple’s] young children.”
Due to “intense media scrutiny,” Kathleen moved the couple’s two young children out of state. In the filings, she says she wishes to remain out of state with her children until attention surrounding the Fogle case passes.
In asking to be granted sole legal and physical custody of the two children, Kathleen’s divorce filing states that Jared, an admitted pedophile and consumer of child pornography, poses a risk to the children that is “both obvious and unacceptable.”
Court documents also detail Kathleen’s thoughts on Jared’s parenting skills, stating due to his frequent travel, “he did not play much of a role in the day-to-day lives of the children even prior to becoming the focus of a criminal investigation.” She told the court the last time Jared saw the children was in August.
The divorce filings also address Jared’s proposal to have permitted regular in-person parenting time for a short time throughout his incarceration. Kathleen argues Jared’s motion is “entirely self-serving” and would require her and the children to move back to Indianapolis, where she fears the young kids would be subject to scrutiny and harassment.
Jared was sentenced on Nov. 19 to serve more than 15 years in prison.
Kathleen is being awarded $7 million in the settlement.
