Police seek answers in fatal hit-and-run crash after 5 vehicle strike 21-year-old man

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 25, 2015)— The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is searching for information on a hit-and-run crash that killed 21-year-old Devan Matthews.

Officers responded to the crash in the 3600 block of North Mitthoefer Road on the northeast side of Indianapolis just after 9 p.m. on Nov. 22. When they arrived, they found Matthews, who had injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Matthews was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Police believe Matthews was attempting to cross the road, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. The vehicle was described by witnesses to be a black pickup truck.

After Matthews was hit by the truck, police say he was struck by several other vehicles, two of which remained at the scene. Two other vehicles that fled after hitting Matthews were described to be a red four-door vehicle and a silver Pontiac.
