Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) is blasting Presidential candidate Donald Trump over his controversial proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States.

"Mr. Trump is a very smart man, which makes his rhetoric that much more dangerous," said Carson, one of two Muslims serving in Congress. "He knows what he's doing, he knows what he's saying... he's speaking to discontent, he's speaking to disillusionment, he's speaking to people who feel they don't have any hope... I think there's an appeal there but what concerns me is that if we haven't studied history and the demagoguery that has taken place throughout the decades... that's not what this country is all about."

On this week's edition of IN Focus, Rep. Carson tells FOX59's Dan Spehler that his office has received death threats since speaking out against Trump's proposal.

"Politicians, myself included, have to be careful about our words," said Carson. "I don't have respect for his political views as it relates to Muslims."

In the video above, Spehler also talks with Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN) who also denounced Trump's comments last week.

"Donald Trump seems to overstate things," said Coats. "We need a serious discussion with serious people who have serious remedies... I'm concerned that we're positioning ourselves to lose the election."
