NEW FRONT ARRIVES TONIGHT
A new, quick drop underway before a new rise coming. Good afternoon from the weather center. Clouds are returning and the second front of the day will sweep across the state this evening.
Temperatures are set to fall sharply tonight as the front passes - dropping back into the middle 20s by sunrise Friday. Snow showers are not far behind. They develop as the evening wears on.
WEEKEND WARMS TO CLOSE JANUARY
We have some action packed weather coming our way in the upcoming seven days. The temperature yo-yo will return to the warm side for the weekend. A passing warm front late night Friday into Saturday morning will send area temperatures to the 50s here for Saturday and Sunday. (Be patient - Saturday will open cloudy and chilly - winds will mix down the drier air and break a temperature inversion by early afternoon.)
POTENT STORM TAKING AIM ON MIDWEST NEXT WEEK
Sights are still set on strong storm early next week that brings wind, record warmth, severe storm outbreak, a blizzard in the cold sector of the storm and new arctic blast behind it.
Tuesday looks to be the day that temps rise, and a line of severe storms could threaten the Ohio Valley to Gulf coast. Blizzard conditions will develop northwest of the low pressure track. The current forecast for Tuesday is 59° and that is record level warmth. The record high for Tuesday, February 2nd is 59° set 105 years ago in 1911! More on the storm in the days ahead as we size up the low track, intensity and timing. I'm posting the Euro- model weather map for Tuesday morning at 7 AM.
