90-year-old woman opts for epic road trip over cancer treatment

New York, NY (WPIX – March 2, 2016) — Last year, 90-year-old Norma was told by doctors that she had uterine cancer two days after her husband of 67 years passed away.
But instead of chemo, or radiation, and even surgery, she decided, as the famous poet Robert Frost once wrote, on “The Road Not Taken.”

Instead of living out the rest of her life in an assisted-living home, she opted for a mobile home, and literally told doctors, she was hitting the road.

Her son Tim and daughter-in-law Ramie, own an RV and are full-time cross-country travelers.

And so for the past six months, they’ve taken Norma, along with her poodle Ringo, on the adventure of a lifetime.

They’ve hit up landmarks including Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon and Disney World.

Though her mobility is not like it used to be, she even took a ride in a hot-air balloon.

The family has been documenting her incredible adventures on the public Facebook page, called “Driving Miss Norma,” which so far has more than 70,000 followers.

Many calling her journey inspiring, because as two roads diverged for Norma, she took the one less traveled.

And it seems by the hundreds of pictures posted by her family, that has made all the difference.
