Colts planning to celebrate Peyton Manning career
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 7, 2016) – Peyton Manning’s emotional press conference Monday in Denver announcing his retirement will be followed by another in his first NFL hometown.
A source with knowledge of the situation said the Colts and Manning are working on arrangements for some type of celebratory press conference or event in Indianapolis. The gathering is expected to occur within the next few weeks at the team headquarters, perhaps March 18.
Manning was emotional while reflecting on his 18-year career, and a similar reaction would be expected at a Colts-related event. That was the case four years ago to the day – March 7, 2012 – when the Colts and Manning parted ways following his 14-year stint with the team.
One comment from Manning that day still resonates: “And as I go, I go with just a few words left to say, a few words I want to address to Colts fans everywhere. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I truly have enjoyed being your quarterback.’’
Owner Jim Irsay has made clear his desire for Manning to be recognized for his career with the franchise.
He said he wanted Manning “to retire as a Colt.’’
