INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 7, 2015) – After reports swirled over the weekend that the Pacers would be adding a back up point guard to their roster, the team made it official Monday morning. The Pacers announced they have signed Ty Lawson.

The 5’11” point guard was formerly with the Houston Rockets this season for 53 games before the team waived him last week. Prior to Houston, Lawson spent his first six seasons in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets.

In a statement released through the team Larry Bird expressed his excitement for Lawson to join the roster.

“We’re glad to have Ty come play with the Pacers for this final run of the season,” said the Pacers’ president of basketball operations. “We think he brings added speed to our backcourt, he can get up and down the floor and he helps strengthen our second unit.”

“This is a good opportunity for me to come here, try to help the Pacers win and get into the playoffs,” said Lawson in a statement released by the Pacers. “I’m just ready to play and do whatever is needed.”
