INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The sun was out as thousands of people lined the streets of downtown Indianapolis to watch the 36th annual St. Patrick's Day parade presented by the Hoosier Lottery.

There were Irish dancers, bagpipers, floats, and high school bands performing through the route.

FOX59's news team was also in the parade waving at folks and handing out candy.

But the highlight of the celebration was a surprise marriage proposal at the St. Patrick's Day block party. Emily White thought she'd won a Hoosier Lottery raffle drawing, but when she came up on stage, her boyfriend Sam Dillon got down on one knee and proposed.

White said she had no idea he was planning this for months.

"I had no idea at all. None!” she said smiling.

Of course, White said yes. Dillon said he wasn't too worried about her answer.

“When I get pictures of wedding rings for the last six months I got the hint pretty quick. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time even if she didn’t hint.”

Dillon said he chose to pop the question during the St. Patrick's Day celebrations, because the parade and block party were part of one of the couple's first dates several years ago.

"It’s just a huge part of our family and our tradition and we’ve got our kids here and I just thought it’d be awesome to do it in front of all our family friends,” said Dillon.
