SPENCER, Ind. (March 23, 2016) – Police in Spencer are searching for a missing little girl.
Shaylyn Michelle Kay Ammerman, 14-months-old, was last seen at her father’s home in the 400 block of West Jefferson Street in Spencer Tuesday night. According to Shaylyn's mother, Jessica Stewart, the girl's father was having a party that night, and she went missing sometime after midnight when the girl was put in the crib.
"I'm just hoping I’ll see her again," Stewart said.
The girl's father, Justin Ammerman and his mother, Tamara Morgan, who are the last people known to have seen the little girl alive disputed Stewart's claim. The two said there was not a party at the home and instead, they believe someone entered the front door overnight and took Shaylyn.
"They just can’t come into someone’s house and take a baby, it’s wrong. You need to give her back to our family, she’s ours not yours," Morgan said.
"Whoever has my daughter, return her please. This is ridiculous, this should’ve never happened in this town," Ammerman said.
Owen County dispatch was notified of Shaylyn being missing around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Shaylyn went back and forth between her parents' homes each week, according to Stewart. She said that she was supposed to pick her daughter up on Friday.
Police spoke to several persons of interest and served search warrants at several houses. Everyone inside the home Tuesday night is considered a person of interest. State Police said Ammerman had been cooperative in the investigation.
Shaylyn is 20 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes, and she was last seen wearing a white zip-up onesie with owls on it and a purple pacifier clipped on. She also had a blue and white Winnie the Pooh blanket.
Evidence was collected from Ammerman's home.
The search has spanned the area between White River and State Road 46. A helicopter was used in the search, along with K-9s and boats on the river.
No arrests have been made.
"Whoever has her just, I hope she’s safe and not hurt, I just want her to come home safe," Stewart said.
If you have any information on Shaylyn’s whereabouts please call Spencer Police at 812-829-3932.
