INDIANAPOLIS (April 10, 2016) - It's one of this year's most fascinating Congressional races- and this week on IN Focus we continue our conversations with the GOP candidates in Indiana's ninth congressional district.
Five candidates are vying for Todd Young’s seat in Congress - attorney general Greg Zoeller, State Sen. Brent Waltz, State Sen. Erin Houchin, businessman Trey Hollingsworth and engineer Robert Hall.
In the video above, Waltz discusses his campaign, his opponents and his chances of winning.
"Anything can happen," said Waltz. "And it often does."
Waltz was also asked about the latest news involving candidate Trey Hollingsworth, who recently moved to Indiana, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on campaign ads.
This past week, Houchin was the latest candidate to launch an attack on Hollingsworth, calling for more scrutiny into the super-PAC's funding his campaign.
“Trey Hollingsworth should immediately disclose whether or not he is funding these attacks out of his own pocket, or who is behind them," said Houchin in a written statement. "This is not how Hoosier conservatives conduct themselves, though I wouldn’t expect Trey to know that, given he only moved to Indiana a few months ago to try to buy this seat in Congress.”
Waltz also was critical of Hollingsworth's campaign.
"I frankly kind of resent the fact that he would come up here and just presume that out of the 740,000 Hoosiers that make up the Indiana ninth district that none of us are capable of governing ourselves, and need him to help us out with that," said Waltz.
In the video above, Sen. Waltz is also asked about his votes on the controversial abortion bill and last year's controversy over RFRA.
Voters in the 9th district will choose their candidate in the Indiana primary on May 3.
