MUNCIE, Ind. (April 13, 2016)– A Ball State University employee was arrested Wednesday on possession of child pornography charges.

Randal R. Schmidt, a maintenance supervisor who had an office north of the main campus, was suspended from his job and barred from campus after his computer was confiscated on April 4.

The investigation began after a review of information security alerted administrators that a campus computer was accessing a site with suspicious content, said Ball State University Police Chief James Duckham.

Schmidt, who worked at Ball State for 20 years, voluntarily ended his employment with the university.

According to police, none of the evidence suggests that any of his activities involved anyone connected with the university.
