Scene of northeast side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 16, 2016) –  A man in his thirties has died and another man was sent to the hospital after a northeast side shooting.

Police and medics were called to the scene in the 4400 block of  North Campbell Avenue around 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses tell us the shootout stemmed from was an argument that started in the middle of the street between a man and a woman.

“They were back and forth arguing and I come back later on and he is lying dead in the middle of the street,” says a neighbor.

Police later tracked down another man who was involved in the shooting. He was inside of a car that witnesses say sped away from the scene. That man is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Emotions were running high at the crime scene as family members and friends of the man found dead in the road tried to run through the crime tape, interfering with the investigation. Police are still working the crime scene to find out what led to the gun battle.

“People obviously know who this person is and it is an emotionally charged situation for them and we understand that, but we have to preserve this crime scene so we can bring justice to this victim and to the family,” says IMPD North District Commander Chris Bailey.
