INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Memphis guard Avery Woodson will transfer to Butler and play for the Bulldogs next season, head coach Chris Holtmann announced Monday afternoon.

“Avery is a terrific addition to our program and we are thrilled to call him a Bulldog,” said Holtmann in a statement from Butler Athletics. “He is a high character young man and an outstanding student who repeatedly earned Dean’s List recognitions. On the court, we expect Avery to make an important contribution to our team with his experience, ability to score the ball and to defend his position. He has shown the ability to compete at a high level. We look forward to his contributions on the court and in the locker room next season.”

A 6-2 guard, Woodson averaged 9.6 points per game last season, shooting 43 percent from beyond the three-point line. In total, his 77 three-pointers in 2015-16 ranked second in the American Athletic Conference. He has played in 64 games in two seasons at Memphis with 45 starts.

Woodson will graduate from Memphis this spring and enroll at Butler as a graduate student with one year of basketball eligibility remaining.
