INDIANAPOLIS, Ind — Three people escaped a fire at a home on the near southeast side Sunday.

Crews responded to the fire in the 2800 block of South Walcott Street just before noon. The Indianapolis Fire Department says two of the three people who live there are students at the University of Indianapolis. The third person is a former student.

A neighbor alerted them to the fire. No injuries were reported. A dog and cat inside the house were accounted for after the fire and said to be OK.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical issues in the attic. The house did have working smoke detectors.

Damage from the fire is estimated at $30,000.
