FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. – A Batesville man died after he was ejected from his vehicle that rolled into a field Saturday night.

Police responded to the crash on St. Mary’s Road near Morris Road around 9:15 p.m.

Police say Glen Smith, 50, was driving a 1983 Ford Mustang when the car left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle rolled after entering a field, ejecting Smith and a passenger, Travis Hirt, 26.

Smith died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Hirt was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville to be treated for his injuries that police believe to be non-life threatening.

An investigation determined that neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.  Police say speed and alcohol may be contributing factors to the crash. Toxicology results on the driver are pending.  The investigation is ongoing.
