KOKOMO, Ind. – Three home break-ins were reported within 24 hours on the same street in Kokomo.
One homeowner told FOX59 he heard a knock on the front door but he took too long to answer, so no one was there. Seconds later, that homeowner caught the intruder crawling through a side window.
“I said, 'If you take one more step I’ll blow your brains,’” said the victim, who chose not to disclose his name.
The two other reported victims were elderly men in their 80s. The thief allegedly picked the lock on Roy Mulkey’s back door and took off with money.
“The day before I just put an envelope in there with $200 in it and that was gone. I had a bunch of quarters and dimes and he got those, too. He didn’t have time to go through the other drawers,” said Mulkey.
Wayne Mast, 85, came home from breakfast Thursday morning to find a busted window at his home.
“Oh just terribly low,” said Mast.
All three break-ins happened in broad daylight and investigators believe they are all connected. Until the thief is caught, neighbors are warning everyone on the street to be on the lookout.
“I just hope they catch him and get some of this stuff stopped,” said Mulkey.
Investigators are reviewing home surveillance video in this case and following up on promising leads.
