VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A Virginia woman died after gusting winds uprooted an umbrella that stabbed her in the chest.

According to WTKR, the incident happened Wednesday evening at Virginia Beach.

Police received a call about a cardiac arrest around 5 p.m. Medics arrived to find a 56-year-old woman suffering from a life-threatening injury.

The woman later died at an area hospital, police said.

A witness told WTKR that the umbrella got caught up in the wind and became airborne before it hit the victim. He said it was like “something out of the Wizard of Oz.”

“I saw the umbrella go up in the air and literally hit the woman, knocking her to the side. Immediately the lifeguards and people started rushing around,” said witness Hugh Martin.

The incident remains under investigation.
