3 injured as train hits RV

MORGANTOWN, Ind.  Three people were injured when the Recreational Vehicle they were riding in was struck by a train Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. on State Road 135 north of Morgantown.

Morgan County deputies say the RV was towing an enclosed trailer that was struck by a train heading toward Brown County.

According to initials reports, the driver of the RV observed the crossing alert signal and mistimed the crossing.

After impact, the wreckage traveled another 150 to 200 yards before coming to a complete stop.

The RV driver, 59-year-old Cody Thomas of Martinsville was taken to IU Morgan Hospital.  Passengers, 17-year-old Alex Larson and 21-year-old Austin Burns were taken to St. Francis Mooresville.  All three had minor injuries.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were evaluated at the scene and released.

The train is believed to have stayed on the tracks and sustained brake damage.
