INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Three people were shot on the West Side early Saturday morning.

The incident happened near the Checkered Flag Tavern in the 5700 block of West Morris Street shortly after midnight.

When police arrived on scene, they found 45-year-old Kevin Wells with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

Officers also found 36-year-old Daniel Smith of Indianapolis lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene.

A few moments later, officers received a call that a third person was at a house on South Whitcomb, where he had gone looking for help.

That victim was shot in the upper thigh and transported to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

A handgun was recovered from the scene, and detectives are investigating what led to the shooting. Detectives believe a disturbance between the men may have led to the shooting.

No arrests have been made and police say they’re not currently looking for any suspects in this case.
