FISHERS, Ind.-- Police say four gang members were arrested on Thursday.
Fishers police were first tipped off to the scheme Wednesday when employees at The Goddard School off Fishers Pointe Boulevard reported a suspicious vehicle with someone watching parents take kids inside.
Within minutes from that report, investigators got called to a purse theft at a different The Goddard School location off 116th Street in Fishers. The vehicle description matched the one from earlier.
Police said an extensive investigation was launched that included 24-hour surveillance of multiple suspects.
Investigators discovered a larger crime ring, with the four suspects bouncing around to various banks trying to pass fake checks with wigs in tow, hoping to look like the females whose identities they stole.
On Thursday, the suspects were arrested as they allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a bank off East 71st Street in Indianapolis.
Fishers police said the suspects are all members of the "Felony Lane Gang."
"Surprising, especially targeting moms because we are busy, we have a lot going on," said Jessica McCleary, "You definitely don't think of it happening as much in Fishers."
But the "Felony Lane Gang" has been active in Indiana and Hamilton County before. In fact, Westfield Police put out this bulletin last year warning residents about them. The large-scale criminal operation originates in Florida but suspects can travel across the United States, striking anywhere.
"I could see people doing whatever it takes," said James Ivey.
People in Fishers said they'll without a doubt hide their valuables from now on, keeping in mind the suburbs aren't immune from sinister activity.
"You want to feel safe, so you kind of act like you are," said Melinda Kennett," Then you remember that it's sometimes scary everywhere."
Givseppe Hudson, 36, of Margate, Florida, faces charges of theft, fraud, fraud of a financial institution, identity theft and conspiracy. He also received a habitual offender enhancement.
Vincent Slaughter, 27, of Oakland Park, Florida, faces charges of theft, fraud, fraud of a financial institution, identity theft and conspiracy.
Kendrick Daise, 27, of Pompano Beach, Florida, faces charges of theft, fraud, fraud of a financial institution, identity theft and conspiracy.
The female juvenile suspect, 17, faces charges of theft, fraud, fraud of a financial institution, identity theft and conspiracy.
Police believe the suspects have been involved in a crime spree spanning multiple states and are still trying to determine how many cases in Fishers may be connected. Anyone with additional information about the suspects is asked to call Detective Dan Nelson at 317-595-3331.
