INDIANAPOLIS–After spotting a vehicle with several equipment violations, Metro Police initiated a traffic stop in the downtown entertainment zone Sunday afternoon.
As the IMPD officer approached the vehicle, he observed the driver attempt to conceal a handgun. An assisting officer observed a rifle lying on the backseat of the vehicle.
Both weapons, an AK-47 and 9 mm handgun, were later discovered to be fully loaded.
Officers said they could also smell burnt marijuana coming from inside the car.
Twenty-three-year-old Dominick Smith was taken into custody without incident.
As police searched the vehicle, they say they found a mason jar containing suspected marijuana, a digital scale, commonly used in the distribution and selling of illegal narcotics.
Smith was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession and dealing in marijuana.
