Indianapolis, IND – A large water main break has forced the closure of East 38th Street in the area of Keystone Avenue Sunday morning.

Water could be seen gushing into the street near a buckled sidewalk along 38th Street.  The actual address of the break is 2815 E. 38th Street.

The street was still flooded with running water after 6:00am Sunday.

Citizens Energy utility crews were on the scene early Sunday morning, working to find and fix the break in the water main.  DPW crews had 38th Street blocked off in the area to prevent drivers from running into the flooded street.

Citizens Energy released a statement regarding the situation:

Citizens Energy Group is advising that both east and west bound lanes of 38th Street east of Meadows Drive are closed due to a break on a 77-year-old water main. Repairs of the 16-inch diameter main are expected to take several hours. Updates will be provided as traffic restrictions change.
