MIDDLETOWN, Ind.– A U.S. Air Force member from Middletown is missing in Italy.

Halex Hale was last seen on July 2 but hasn’t been heard from since. Hale is stationed at Aviano Air Base about 50 miles northeast of Venice. His family says he’s been stationed there for about two years. Hale, 24, graduated from Shenandoah High School and has been with the Air Force for six years. He served in Afghanistan before being stationed in Italy.

Hale’s father is currently travelling to Italy to join the search.

“He left his cell phone, bill fold and keys behind,” said the missing airman’s mother, Amy Hale, “and that’s not like a young adult.”

Italian and American authorities are investigating the disappearance and volunteers are being used to search the area.

The Middletown Church of the Nazarene is collecting donations so that other family members can travel to Italy and aid in the search effort. Amy Hale says this type of occurrence is completely out of character for her son.
