Get ready for a “stop-n-go” weekend on central Indiana interstates
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Weekend drivers around central Indiana will have to deal with several construction zones, especially in the metro area.
Most of the work will take place south of I-70 from the west to the east, with the heaviest concentration of delays expected to be on I-465 between Kentucky Avenue and Emerson Avenue, as well as on the east side along I-465 from Brookville Road to 30th.
The east side project will get started later Thursday night as HIS Constructors and Milestone Contractors will have two adjoining work zones on southbound I-465 on the east side of Indianapolis.HIS will close the left two lanes of southbound I-465 between the 30th Street overpass and the east side I-70 interchange (Exit 44) starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15 until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 18.
Milestone Contractors will close the right two lanes of southbound I-465 between the east side I-70 interchange (Exit 44) and U.S. 52/Brookville Road (Exit 47) starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 14 until 6 a.m. on Friday, July 15. The same two lanes will close again at 9 p.m. on Friday for concrete patching that will last through the weekend until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 18.
At the same times, Milestone will close the southbound I-465 (Exit 46) ramp to U.S. 40/Washington Street. Traffic will be directed to continue south on I-465 to U.S. 52/Brookville Road (Exit 47) and return northbound on I-465 to access the U.S. 40/Washington Street exit.
During the concurrent weekend lane closures, one lane of southbound I-465 will remain open through the work zone. The open lane will shift near the east side I-70 interchange from the right lane to the left lane.
Meanwhile in the downtown area, Civil Coatings will close the right lane on the westbound I-70 ramp to southbound I-65 and the left lane of the westbound I-70 Exit 83A collector ramp to Michigan Street, Ohio Street and Fletcher Avenue for concrete patching and bridge painting starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 15 until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 18.
The south-west side of the city along I-465 has been an ongoing work zone for the past several month and will continue to be the focus of weekend work as Rieth-Riley Construction will close the right lane of eastbound I-465 between the west side I-70 interchange (Exit 9) and State Road 37/Harding Street (Exit 4) on Thursday, July 14 at 8 p.m. until Friday, July 15 at 6 a.m.
The same right lane of eastbound I-465 will close again on Friday at 8 p.m. for concrete patching that will last through the weekend until Monday, July 18 at 6 a.m.
Traffic lanes will be temporarily shifted so that at least two lanes will remain open.
