LONG POND, Pa. – Helio Castroneves escaped injury following a bizarre crash in the pits during Monday’s Verizon IndyCar Series race at Pocono.

Charlie Kimball crashed into Alexander Rossi, sending Rossi’s car airborne and on top of Castroneves’ car. Castroneves ended up with tire marks on the side of his car.

“I just saw a car on top of me all of a sudden,” Castroneves told RACER. “It was scary; it hit a little bit of my hand. [But] inside the car I was more protected than what it looked like.”

The crash, which happened on lap 64 of the rain-delayed ABC Supply 500, ended the day for both Rossi and Castroneves.

Will Power won the race and trails Simon Pagenaud by 22 points in the championship standings.
