Coroner: Missing Columbus woman’s remains found in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – A coroner has identified the human remains found in Shelby County as those of a missing Columbus woman.

On August 1, 2016, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department received a report of human remains that were found in the southern part of the county.  The remains have been positively identified as the remains of Nicolle R. Olmstead, 33, of Columbus, Indiana.

Olmstead was reported missing to the Columbus Police Department on July 12, 2016 and had last been seen on July 1, 2016 in Columbus.

"She has family, we need to know what happened. I do not understand it, she would not harm a fly. She was a good person. she just had issues," says Olmstead's step-mother Nicole Burton.

Olmstead’s death is being investigated by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, and no further details are being released at this time.

"There are no words that can describe what we are going through," says Burton.
