Madison County authorities search for driver who ran into horse drawn carriage, fled scene

UPDATE: Authorities arrested Jason E. Moore on a count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. – Authorities in Madison County are searching for a driver who ran into a horse drawn carriage and fled the scene.

According to police, 65-year-old Stacy Scott and a young woman were riding in the horse drawn carriage southbound on County Road 300 East from County Road 200 South.

A person driving behind the horse drawn carriage in a gray 2006 Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended the horse drawn carriage. The carriage was completely destroyed and the passengers were thrown from the carriage.

The carriage was being pulled by two horses. One horse had to be put down on the scene, and the other horse was transported home.

Scott suffered a concussion, a possible torn rotator cuff in the right shoulder, and a large cut on his right knee.  Scott is the principal of Liberty Christian High School.

The driver of the Silverado left the scene after the crash.  Investigators found the truck nearby and have named Jason Moore of Yorktown, IN as a person of interest.
