Police identify man killed after motorcycle crash in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Ind. – Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Lawrence.

The crash was first reported around 7:50 a.m. at East 65th Street and Pendleton Pike.

The passerby noticed a body off to the side of the road and a motorcycle about 20 to 30 yards away resting against a billboard sign pole.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet but he had a helmet on his bike.

According to the Lawrence Police Department, it appears that the motorcyclist lost control of the bike, and died instantly of blunt force trauma to the head upon crashing. Police identified the the man as 28-year-old Josiah Collett of Carmel.

Police were waiting on autopsy and laboratory results before making a final determination on what caused the crash.
