INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Metro police are investigating after they say several people fired dozens of gunshots, hitting at least one bystander during a fight Sunday morning.

Officers say there was a group of people leaving a night club near 25th and Station Streets just after 4 a.m. Many of those people had parked about a block away at a gas station near 25th and Sherman and were walking there when an argument started. Police say they believe about six people started shooting at the same time. Officers on scene said they talked to witnesses, who believed they heard more than 100 shots fired. It’s unclear exactly how many shots were fired, but police later said they recovered 30 shell casings.

Officers say one female bystander was hit and taken to Community East Hospital for treatment. Police say she was later transferred to Eskenazi and underwent surgery. Officials have not released an update on her condition at this time.

Investigators questioned three people of interest at the gas station at 25th and Sherman. Those men were handcuffed and sitting on the ground, but police say the men were released after detectives determined they were not involved. Police say a male suspect “was developed, but his name is unknown at this time.” Detectives continue to investigate.
