MARTINSVILLE, Ind.– Martinsville Mayor Shannon Kohl announced Tuesday that the city’s police chief is stepping down.

No specific reason was given for Chief Rick Lang’s sudden departure, but Kohl did say “there are growing pains with every new administration” in a statement posted to Facebook.

Lang’s last day on the job was Tuesday.

“Rick was a valuable member of our administration’s team and a strong leader for the Martinsville Police Department. His years of experience and wisdom will be missed,” said Kohl.

Deputy Police Chief Matt Long will serve as acting police chief. Kohl said she has “every confidence Matt will do a great job as he has been doing since we took office in January.”
