BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Bloomington police say they believe a rape suspect from an incident on September 5 is connected with another incident that occurred several days later.

Devin Grounds, 28, was arrested on September 15 for allegedly entering an apartment in the 2000 block of North Walnut Street and raping the resident.

Detectives identified Grounds as a suspect in that case due to DNA evidence. Grounds was charged with burglary, rape, and theft.

On September 19, detectives filed additional charges against Grounds for breaking into an apartment in the 400 block of East Melrose Avenue. That case occurred on September 8, when a 22-year-old woman victim woke up and noticed a male suspect wearing a mask crouched next to her bed. She began screaming and the suspect fled the residence.

Grounds’ DNA was located inside the victim’s residence, which resulted in the additional charge of burglary.

Detectives are still investigating similar incidents reported in the area in which a masked man broke into two other homes.
