GREENFIELD, Ind. – A central Indiana church is hoping to break a world record and help the homeless at the same time.

Greenfield Christian Church is holding a blanket drive in hopes of creating the world’s largest blanket fort in their parking lot.

Last year, the North London Collegiate School set the world record for largest blanket fort with an area of 3303.4 ft². Members of the Greenfield church and other community groups are hoping to break that record and build a fort with an area of 3600 ft².

The church believes they need to collect at least 300 blankets in order to break the record.

The purpose of the blanket fort is to raise awareness of homelessness in central Indiana. After the fort is measured, all of the blankets will be washed and donated to homeless shelters around Greenfield and Indianapolis.

Blankets can be dropped off at the church which is located at 23 North East Street, Greenfield.

The build is scheduled to take place on October 29 with a rain date of October 30.
